Engaging Adolescent Males in Teen Pregnancy Prevention

This webinar, in observance of National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, will explore strategies for effectively working with male youth in adolescent pregnancy prevention programs. Héctor Sánchez-Flores, executive director of the National Compadres Network (NCN), will discuss strategies and innovative ways to recruit and engage young men in programs to support healthy futures of male youth. Participants will learn about actionable ideas they can apply to their work as they hear from two Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (APP) Program grantees, The East Los Angeles Community Union (SRAE) and Bristol Hub (PREP). Finally, presenters will share resources attendees can use to enhance their engagement of male youth in programming.

 At the conclusion of this 90-minute webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss how male youth can be engaged to address harmful gender stereotypes that can perpetuate negative outcomes, including those related to pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs);
  • Identify at least two strategies to increase recruitment and retention of male youth in their programming, including vulnerable youth;
  • Gain an understanding of real-time strategies used from the experiences of two APP grantees and;
  • Reference one resource to learn more about engaging male youth in pregnancy and STI prevention programming.
