Meeting the Needs of Multilingual Learners
This Share and Learn session will provide Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) grantees an opportunity to dialogue and exchange ideas with each other about how to engage students who are multilingual learners and their caregivers in SRAE programming. The number of people in the United States who speak a language other than English at home has nearly tripled over the last three decades, and multilingual learners are one of the fastest-growing student populations in our nation’s public elementary and secondary schools. With this increase of students whose native language is not English, it is becoming more important to foster an equitable learning environment in SRAE programming in which multilingual learners can thrive. This could mean incorporating interpretation and translation services and other strategies to meet the needs of these students and their families. Delivering programming in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner is also a requirement for SRAE grants. This event is for all SRAE grantees interested in exploring ideas and strategies on adapting to the needs of multilingual learners and their families.
