According to the Child Maltreatment 2022 Summary, the most common type of child maltreatment is neglect, followed by physical and sexual abuse. In the past year, at least 1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse or neglect in the United States. In 2020, child abuse and neglect resulted in the death of 1,750 children.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to recognize the importance of working to support and strengthen families and prevent child maltreatment. There are multiple ways you can raise awareness about child and family well-being and implement effective strategies to support families and prevent child abuse and neglect.
