National Minority Health Month
Despite significant progress in research, practice, and policy, disparities in youth health risk behaviors such as sexual behavior, substance use, and suicide persist. Health disparities are directly related to the unequal distribution of resources among populations. According to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), for instance, both Hispanic and non-Hispanic black adults were more likely than non-Hispanic white adults to have diagnosed diabetes in 2018.
National Minority Health Month is a time to raise awareness of health disparities experienced by minority groups. The theme for this year is “Better Health Through Better Understanding,” with a focus on improving health outcomes by providing Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS).
