National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
Event Date:
Did you know that more than 1.1 million Americans are currently living with HIV? Of these individuals, about 23% are women. It is estimated that an additional 38,000 Americans are diagnosed with HIV each year, with women accounting for 19% of these diagnoses.
Women—particularly African American and Hispanic women—continue to remain vulnerable to HIV infection. National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) is meant to shed light on the impact of HIV and AIDS on women and girls. Everyone has a role to play in HIV prevention. Here are some steps you can take to show support for those at risk of and living with HIV:
Get Involved:
- Share these facts for all girls and women to know regarding HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, and care.
- Download and promote resources on HIV and women’s health from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Let’s Stop HIV Together campaign.
- Show your support by organizing an event in your community or post on social media to raise awareness.
