PREP TA Office Hour: Staff/Subrecipient Recruitment, Development, and Retention
Trained and trusted staff and subrecipients are key to unlocking the full potential of your PREP programming. However, there are numerous barriers that can prevent the development of productive staff and subrecipient relationships. Whether it is difficulty in finding a suitable candidate; uncertainties related to training, professional development, and other supports; or turnover that requires you to start the whole process over again, the recruitment, development, and retention of staff and subgrantees can be tricky to navigate.
Staff and subgrantee recruitment starts with clearly articulating your program’s needs, and recruiting an individual or organization that is a good fit provides a strong basis for your ongoing relationship. Development may include trainings, cross-organization meetings, linkages to resources on The Exchange, and more. Proactive development of staff and subrecipients can pose a challenge in itself because of factors like budget and scheduling constraints. Appropriate support from the employer or main grantee, open lines of communication, and a shared mission can help retain staff and subrecipients. PREP grantees have identified and employed a wide range of strategies to support staff and grantee recruitment, development, and retention.
Join the next TA Office Hours to talk and share strategies and approaches for staff and subrecipient recruitment, development, and engagement with your TA providers and fellow grantees, including brainstorming how to address common barriers.
