Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Event Date:
-
Recent national surveys have shown significant increases in the prevalence of mental health challenges among children and youth ages 3-17. In 2021, 42% of high school students experienced persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and 10% attempted suicide one or more times during the past year.
We can all play a role in preventing suicide and protecting youth—let’s work together to raise awareness, spread hope, and support young people struggling with suicidal ideation.
Ways to Get Involved:
- Encourage youth to start the conversation about their mental health with a trusted adult or mental health professional.
- View blog posts from You Matter—a safe space created by the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for youth to discuss stories about mental health.
- Learn more about what you can do to prioritize youth mental health based on your role.
- Explore this webinar on risk factors for suicide and resources for vulnerable populations of youth.
- Connect teens with youth-friendly resources.
