World AIDS Day
Event Date:
World AIDS Day has been commemorated every December 1 since 1988 to unite people worldwide against HIV/AIDS. This year’s theme, “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress,” celebrates the progress HIV programs have made over time and emphasizes the continuing efforts needed to end the HIV epidemic.
In 2022, young people aged 13–24 accounted for 19% of the 37,981 HIV diagnoses in the United States. Yet, almost half of young people with HIV do not know they have it. You can play a role in preventing HIV/AIDS by encouraging young people to understand their risk and sharing resources on where they can get tested and how to find treatment if needed.
Ways to Get Involved:
- Check out our resources to learn how to support teen sexual health and promote sexual risk avoidance.
- View materials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Get Yourself Tested” campaign, which are designed to encourage young people to get tested for HIV and STIs.
- Explore the HIV Source portal for resources and information related to HIV/AIDS.
- Share CDC’s tool for locating HIV and STI testing centers.
