Substance Use and Sexual Risk-Taking: Connecting the Dots for Adolescent Health Professionals
Because the brain is still developing executive functioning skills around decision-making and judgment, adolescents are particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of substances, thus increasing their likelihood of engaging in risky sexual behaviors. FYSB’s new infographic, Substance Use and Sexual Risk-Taking: Connecting the Dots for Adolescent Health Professionals, provides insights into the relationship between substance use and sexual risk-taking, and elucidates the skills that help youth abstain from both of these behaviors. The infographic also provides tips on what youth-serving providers can do to incorporate substance use prevention into the design and selection, implementation, or evaluation of their adolescent pregnancy prevention (APP) programming.
